Back to Basics

Back to Basics

There is no relation with what I am writing and the title of this article!

2 Days ago was my 28th Birthday. I am 28 years old...sounds pretty old...and heavy. 3 years since I have written something here. And it feels really nice writing in this blog.

28 years. I am in my late twenties now. Sudden realization of my age at my birthday made me look back to 28 years of my life.

Anyways, so, my life...28 years.

First 5 years, I was in Bambrud (Raniche) [PS: this 'Raniche' in brackets is a must. The place in official records is mentioned just like this. It means Queen's village. There was a hill and a ruin of a palace belonging to Queen on that hill. It was the sole and copyrighted haunted place in the village.]. It is a village where my dad worked in lone Bank available to that village. Couldn't recollect much about those 5 years, except that, those were pretty happening. My day job was to follow my two elder brothers, demand whatever they have like books, school bags, notebooks, stationery etc. We had a huge courtyard there, where I used to play for the entire day.

As the house we lived in had floor prepared from Cow Dung, it was a regular job of me to follow cows around village and collect their dung in a basket for that specific use (This is the most concrete memory of mine from those days).

Later, we shifted to "Pachora" as my dad was transferred to nearby "Bhadgaon". Pachora is a town with 40-50k population, more like a small town with equal mix of city and village life. I have started my schooling from second year of our residence in the town. In the first year, whenever my parents dropped me at school, I ran away from school back to home (I was terrified by all the unknown boys and girls. Kind of Xenophobia.). This continued for almost a month, and then they realized that I am not ready to go to school this year. Next year, I went to school without any hiccup like born to go to school. I remember my school fees for standard one was Rs. 2 per month.

I was in school named "Supadu Bhadu Patil Marathi Vidya Mandir' up to class 4th. Then automatically I was selected to its affiliated secondary school "Govindaram Secseria High School". I have learned to call the middle name of our school founder as 'Sex"eria much later in my life. Until then it was G S High School or in Marathi 'Go Se High School'.

I was in that high school till standard 10. I was an above average student throughout my life. I always felt that I am some extraordinary being, sometimes I have proved it in my schooling life, most of the times I haven't. Ranking in school exams was a moment of pride for me...always. I was first ranker in my first four years of schooling life. In 5th class I came 6th, 6th Class 4th, 7th -8th - 9th class I stood 2nd. And came first in my 10th board exams. (I don't know why I have mentioned it here. May be I still take pride in those rankings).

My school life was characterized by lots and lots of things. Cricket (now started calling the game by its name), all creatively created different games and play models, football (kicking plastic ball fiercely was the idea of foot ball then), badminton, lagori, playing with animals like dogs, cats, frogs, pigs, butterflies, calves, chicken, sheep, goat, birds etc., then there were seasonal games – different for summer, winter and rainy seasons. Television was one of the most prized possessions we had. I liked to watch all cartoons (Disney ones on Door Darshan, Zee TV cartoons). Then TV also had Hindi dubbed English series like 3 stooges, I dream of Genie and Dennis the Menace etc. TV had movies (Fixation of movies started from those days) as well on every Saturday and Sunday.

Comics (only Hindi ones, especially Diamond, Raj, Manoj & Tulsi Comics) were my favorite time pass. We had a Library of comics then and used to give comics on rent to people. That was my first encounter with business and nitti gritties of it. We used to take a comic on rent from another library for 50 paise per day and give that comic to someone else on rent for 1 rupee per half day.

Getting back to topic, if there is any, I can actually write a book on my life. Anyways, more on that thought later sometime.

Looking back to my 28 years of life, I feel I have done much, could have done much much more and now can do more than that much. I think, one third of my life is over and two thirds should be planned unlike first one third.

But what plan!

Let me list down some things I desperately want to do –First one undoubtedly travelling (I want to visit every corner of this world, every river, every hill, and every city/village/town. I want to see different people, cultures, and places all at once. I believe in old adage of journey being most precious, who cares about destination. ) Second one is a tie between being a movie director (My first and most prized dream. I would love to fill the screen of a cinema theatre with my vision and stories which I see, my way. I have fixation on movies. Period) and being a politician (Yes. Don’t know why I want to become one, despite not having that cunningness or drive to indulge in pig fight in a mud pool full of filth. May be it relates to my innermost feeling of doing something better, far better than anyone has done before. Looking from today’s scenario it is unfeasible but most efficient tool to satisfy that inner urge of mine.). Third one... get to a position of power (Power to influence people’s lives. It can be CEO, COO or any damn CXO, VP etc. Preferably in Shipping, Entertainment, Media or FMCG Industry. These industries are as varied as my thoughts.)

During my appraisal this year, my boss asked me what I want to be. I have honestly given above choices. He, more honestly and humbly, told me it’s Bullshit. I am still trying to figure out what is bull shit and what are my choices & desires.

Sometimes I can conclude that I just go with the flow. Or more importantly the flow which looks more feasible and approachable to me. Some of the other times, I can’t conclude anything. While most of the times, I feel that it’s utterly stupid & idiotic to try to conclude.

I wish to do everything and also at times don’t want to do anything.

I wish I had a split personality, at least 10 clones. Then I would be very happy to do all the things I wanted to. But then, I am happy now as well.

But wait a minute....what I am saying...!!!
